Present from the babysitter

Our amazing sitter Lauren gave Max a warm, super soft, amazing blanket for Christmas. When he woke up from his nap, this is what he had to say about his day with her.

Bath with a buddy

Max took a bath with his friend B after a fun playdate and a pizza party. He seemed to enjoy himself up until the uninvited foot rub.

Bargaining

For the first time in about 2 months for daytime babysitting, Max finally didn't cry when his wonderful sitter Lauren got here. This is because we talked beforehand about it and I told him I would bring him a car if he was a good boy for her and didn't cry. He said, "2 cars." Wow. Really?! I wasn't expecting that but I agreed. When Lauren got here, not only did he not cry but he hugged her, was happy as a clam, and as he got his stroller started chatting to her about 2 cars. 21 months and already bargaining and taking bribes!

Pumpkin Patch

Max had fun this weekend running around trying to pick up super heavy pumpkins. Last night when fighting sleep, he started talking about pumpkins and bats. After finally convincing him to close his eyes and dream of them, he drifted off.

Hat

Max has been real obsessed with his hats lately, often refusing to take them off.

Walk

Another one of Max's new words. Now he says it when he's in his stroller and not too happy about it. However, he is really great about holding our hands while walking, which he would never do a few weeks ago.

Other recent additions to Max's vocabulary include; wet, dance, help, Elmo, go, and a good attempt at Muno and Plex(Yo Gabba Gabba). He also knows almost every letter in the alphabet but insists on calling the letter D dadda, and Z zip. I have to admit, I think zip as the last letter of the alphabet is so cute, I don't want to correct him.

More Words

Today Max blew on his food and said, "hot." And he pointed to his water and said "wa-wa." Yesterday Max pointed to the door on his toy bus and said "door." However he continues to refer to DJ Lance Rock as "Dada."

Happy 1/2 Birthday (18 months!)

Along with Max's happy half birthday came the dreaded well baby check up. This time, I tried to ease tensions between Max and Dr. Simons by having the doctor present him with a shiny new toy truck. It started off great in the waiting room but just when I thought they were best buds, Max LOST it when he saw the exam room and screamed his head off as usual.

Here are his stats -
Height - 32.52 inches/ 2.7 feet (55%)
Weight - 26.8 pounds (55%)
Head Circumference - 49 cm (80%!)

So Max is slimming down (probably because he eats nothing but Joe's O's and goldfish), but is still a healthy weight and height and developing and growing marvelously.

Here are some of the words that Max has been using lately in addition to mama and dada - Ball, book, bird, bus, dog, duck, truck, rock, up, moon, no, nose, eyes, block, boat, car, blue, hat, "M", and a whole lot of animal noises.

He's been really into playing with cars and trucks, having us read to him (and is very particular about his choices), watching Yo Gabba Gabba, running, going down the slide on his own, playing in the dirt and touching flowers and plants, climbing and jumping all over the furniture, and headbutting and wrestling with daddy.

Smashing Pumpkins Fan

Max refused to leave the house without our Smashing Pumpkins CD box set this morning so I let him take it with him. After all, his parents first date was a Smashing Pumpkins laser light show.

Max @ 15 Months!

Our incredibly active boy just turned 15 months on our 5th anniversary. With that came a doctors appointment and an MMR shot. As soon as Max sees the doctor these days, he looses it. In fact he was so hysterical for the routine part of the exam (heartbeat, weight checking, etc.) that he passed out on Perry's lap before his shot. I think the doctor was even more relieved than we were.

Here are some stats:
Weight: 25 pounds (60th % - he's slimming down)
Height: 31 1/2 inches (65th % - he's getting tall!)
Head circumference: 75th %

He is still a super picky eater and sleep is still an issue for us but we wouldn't trade him for anything in the world! He now says momma, dada, ball, bus, bird (although the last three sound the same), and dog. He loves being outside and running around and gets cranky if we coop him up for too long. He LOVES attention, gets a ton of it and seems to get upset when people don't pay attention to him. He's very social and loving. He likes to dance and spin and do somersaults with daddy. And he is clearly the cutest boy in the world :)

Sicky

saddest picture ever
Our poor little guy got his first fever, first ear infection, and first bout with bronchitis. It's been almost 2 weeks since he came down with a fever (102.5 to start), the doc diagnosed it as 'an undetermined viral thing'. His fever went down in a few days but instead of getting better, poor Max got increasingly fussy. We found out he had an ear infection and bronchitis but once again, instead of getting better with the antibiotics the doctor prescribed him, he continued to get worse. Turned out, his antibiotics weren't helping and he was prescribed something stronger that will hopefully bring back our happy boy. The doc also had Perry give him some albuterol via nebulizer to help clear and relax his little lungs. Needless to say, it's been a rough few weeks for all of us.

Ball!

Today Max ran up to a ball and said the word "ball" for the first time. He threw the ball and said "ball" two more times, clearly. He hasn't done it since.

He has also been saying momma and dada for awhile, has said doggy, and can do the signs for milk, more, and no more.

Happy 1st Birthday Max!

Max had two celebrations for his 1st birthday. First grandpa Joel came in for his actual birthday, and we had Carrot Cake (which Max enjoyed sans frosting), and opened presents.

Then 1 week later, Aunt Jenn and Uncle Scott hosted a first birthday party in their condos common room. It was a perfect space and a bunch of Max's friends were able to join and run around with him. Uncle Jerry and Aunt's Jesse and Gina came all the way from San Diego for Max's special day!

Max's first Christmas

Max spent his first Christmas at his grandparents' in New Hampshire.
He got to meet their Bichon Frise, Lulu:

:*

He also got to practice climbing up and down stairs, and did a pretty darn good job (our SF apartment unfortunately doesn't have any suitable stairs for Max to climb on):

At the summit!

Most excitingly, Max got to experience snow for the first time:

And last, but not least, here's a shot of Max opening his first Christmas present ever:

In other news, Max's third tooth (top front left) has finally broken through his gums. Hopefully the other will come real soon and Max can take a breather before more come through.
